Simple utility to connect typical Fatar diode matrix keyboard to DMS-2K dual diode matrix scanner, or MIDI128 standalone 2-keyboard organ MIDI controller To connect one keyboard you need one set as shown in the picture above. It allows to select upper or lower contact to trigger a note. Selection is done by replacing the jumpers. This board does not help in velocity sensing, it is only to simplify connection to DMS-2K scanner board, which is not velocity-sensitive. Works with both DF and DR type of Fatar keyboards.


One set consists of:

  • circuit board with connectors and jumpers
  • 2 ribbon cables to connect this board to Fatar-style keyboard
  • 1 ribbon cable to connect this board to DMS-2K scanner

The black plug is not polarized, so it can be placed in 2 ways into 16-pin header. Only one way is correct, but you cannot damage anything by placing it in reverse. There are keyboards with diodes installed in one of 2 directions, so only one position will work, but it depends on the keybpoard type which one is correct. So when there is no MIDI action coming out, reverse the black connector and notes will start appearing. Older FatBreaks used to have 2 black polarized plugs placed in reverse, for the same reason.

Pictures below show what the jumpers are for. Each typical Fatar keyboard has 2 contacts per key, lower and upper. Lower contact triggers a note in more or less typical depth that we all are used to. Upper contact triggers a note a bit higher, just a slight bit below the normal rest position of a key. Some organists prefer that as it's more sensitive and faster to play.
To select shallow or deeper note trigger, place the green jumpers according to the pictures below:
