This little board is taking care of multiple keyboards, or sets of potentiometers. It has no keyboard scanning ability on board, instead it works with up to 4 expanders of any kind. So depending on chosen expander boards it can work as little 7-pot MIDI knob box, or large system with 512 keys in 8 keyboards plus 40 potentiometers. Typical application is MIDI controller for Native Instruments B4 Hammond organ emulator consisting of 2 keyboards, pedalboard, switches, drawbars etc., or large MIDI organ consoles with 4 keyboards, pedals, and lots of stops/pistons

Features:

  • onboard 8 potentiometer inputs
  • 4 scanner inputs for connecting keyboards or potentiometers scanner
  • user defined split point independent for each keyboard
  • user defined channel and key range independent for each split
  • user defined independent MIDI channel for each keyboard/split and pot
  • user defined independent MIDI event type for each keyboard/split and pot
  • user defined independent transposition for each keyboard/split
  • Program Change via numeric keypad
  • all settings stored in nonvolatile memory.
  • special version available, with features used in Native Instruments B4

The board shown above has a 10-pin IDC header for 8 potentiometers. There are also 4 connectors for expanders, one (3-pin) for MIDI out cable, and the smallest one is for power supply. Without any expander it can work as controller of 8 potentiometers, but no change of MIDI settings can be done by the user. If equipped with smallest expander for 16 keys, or better - special numeric keypad, the user can set MIDI channel and controller type of each channel individualy. This small expander is working as numeric entry for entering MIDI channel number, controller's number, or Program Change. It can of course work also as typical keyboard of 16 keys.
With additional expanders the system can be freely upgraded to a larger one. No modification is needed to run this board as just 8 pots controller or full blown system with over 500 keys and 40 potentiometers. It's only a matter of plugging another type of expander. There can be 4 keyboard scanners, and 1 potentiometer scanner.
